There are reports of epidemics of cholera, typhoid, jaundice and other infectious diseases, which were caused by polluted water. Many pathogenic bacteria such as, Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella typhi, Shiegella dyseinteriae, Leptospira cetero--haemorrhagiae, etc., pollute water and make it unfit for drinking.
